Datacentre projects could face fees for grid access to ease connection queue, Ofgem says
tech
Per The Guardian, Britain's energy regulator is proposing upfront fees for datacentres seeking grid connections to ease a growing electricity backlog. Three hundred fifteen datacentres are queued to connect, demanding seventy-three gigawatts of power—nearly thirty gigawatts more than the nation's peak demand of forty-five gigawatts. The backlog represents a critical constraint on the UK's infrastructure capacity.
