New South Wales will send specialist nurses rather than police to some mental health emergencies, following a long-fought-for reform announced in the wake of multiple deaths at the hands of police. The Guardian reports that mental health minister Rose Jackson and police minister Yasmin Catley unveiled a statewide change to how triple-zero calls are triaged, with a new team of mental health experts assessing mental health calls around the clock to provide better support.
