Race to extinguish blazes across Europe as fire weather breaks records

Fire weather across the European Union has broken records for severity this time of year, according to data from the European Forest Fire Information Service. From the start of the year through July, the hot, dry, and windy conditions have been forty-three percent more severe than the average for the same period over the last two decades. The Guardian reports that carbon pollution is fueling these extreme conditions as firefighters work to contain blazes across the Mediterranean.
