Top mountaineer Nirmal Purja among 11 confirmed dead after avalanche in Pakistan

A world-renowned Nepali mountaineer has died in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan, according to The Guardian. Nirmal Purja, a former UK Special Forces member, was leading an expedition of ten other climbers on the world's twelfth-highest mountain when the avalanche struck around noon on Thursday. The Guardian reports eleven climbers in total were caught in the avalanche and confirmed dead.
