This 1940 time capsule came with its own windmill

Boing Boing reports on a remarkable time capsule created in nineteen forty by Thornwell Jacobs, president of Georgia's Oglethorpe University. Jacobs calculated that roughly six thousand years had elapsed since the beginning of the Egyptian calendar, and decided to seal a message to the distant future by the same span. He welded shut a converted swimming pool filled with nineteen-thirties artifacts, with instructions that it remain sealed until May twenty-eighth, eight thousand one hundred thirteen. It's an unusual bet on the future—a pool sealed with instructions to wait more than six thousand years before opening.
