Bob & Barbara's in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

For nearly six decades, Bob and Barbara's Lounge has been the heart of Philadelphia nightlife. Opened in nineteen sixty-nine by the couple it's named for, the bar is known for three things: a legendary drag show every Thursday hosted by Miss Lisa Lisa, live jazz most weekends, and the Citywide—a drink so iconic that bartenders across the city recognize the name instantly. Atlas Obscura describes it as simply a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a Jim Beam shot, a combination that allegedly started when a regular needed to keep customers coming back. The bar remains packed on weekends, its walls a nostalgic archive of Pabst memorabilia and photographs chronicling the place's enduring role in the city's cultural life.
