Approval of east London datacentre labelled ‘slap in the face’ for local democracy

The Guardian reports that Britain's housing secretary Angela Rayner has approved a redevelopment of the Truman Brewery estate in Brick Lane, east London, valued at five hundred million pounds. The project will include a datacentre, offices, and apartments — but only eleven of those apartments will be affordable homes, despite Tower Hamlets council and local campaigners calling for hundreds of new homes on the site. The decision is being branded a 'slap in the face' for local democracy, as Rayner's office overrode the council's objections.
