Hungary comes ‘within millimetres’ of shutting down nuclear power plant amid drought crisis – Europe live

Hungary came within millimetres of shutting down its Paks nuclear power plant overnight, according to Prime Minister Péter Magyar, as extreme heat and low water levels in the Danube threatened the reactor's cooling systems. Around one-thirty in the morning, the water level stopped falling and rose one point five centimetres by daybreak, allowing the plant to continue operating safely. Low water levels continue to challenge countries across south-eastern Europe.
