Poll: Talarico has slim lead over Paxton in Texas Senate race

politics

Three consecutive polls show Democrat James Talarico with a narrow lead over Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the state's U.S. Senate race. The latest survey, released Tuesday, has Talarico at forty-seven percent and Paxton at forty-five percent—within the survey's margin of error, reports Axios. A significant funding gap has emerged. Talarico has raised thirty million dollars, while Paxton brought in nine million last quarter. Paxton is also facing demographic headwinds. He's winning white voters by only fourteen points, far below Trump's thirty-three-point margin in Texas two years ago. And among Latino voters, Talarico now leads by nineteen points, reversing Trump's previous ten-point win there. The irony: Texas Republicans spent over sixty million dollars trying to stop Paxton in the primary. He won. Now he's losing to a Democrat.
