Per The Guardian, Italy is placing all twenty-seven of its major cities—from Trieste in the north to Palermo in the south—under the country's highest heat alert as the fourth heatwave of this summer intensifies. A red alert means a higher chance of emergency because of the health risks from prolonged extreme temperatures affecting the entire population. In some areas, temperatures are approaching forty degrees Celsius.
