Vertical Tabs in Chrome

LessWrong reports that Chrome has finally added native support for vertical tabs—displaying your tabs in a side stack rather than the traditional horizontal arrangement across the top. The feature, available through a new 'Show Tabs Vertically' option, comes after more than fifteen years of user requests, including from engineers at Google itself. When the author asked Chrome's team about this in two thousand twelve, they explained most users found vertical tabs confusing and that keeping the browser simple was a priority. But competition from other browsers like Firefox, which have long supported vertical tabs natively, apparently changed the company's thinking. For power users juggling dozens of tabs, especially multiple windows from the same site, the vertical layout solves the core problem: monitors are wide, but websites are tall.
