3D Printing A Usable Airless Tire

Per Hackaday, YouTuber Berm Peak 3D-printed a working airless tire for his mountain bike. He experimented with several designs before settling on a TPU-based approach using an S-shaped support structure between the tread and wheel. The tire prints in sections that lock together using a 3D-printed rim interface. In testing on extreme trails, the homemade tire held up surprisingly well—a notable achievement for something fabricated on a DIY printer. That said, modern mountain bikes already solve the puncture problem that airless tires promise: riders use sealant-lined tires, which are proven and reliable.
