politics

Progressive environmental organizer William Lawrence has won the Democratic primary for Michigan's seventh congressional district, according to The Guardian. Lawrence, who is thirty-six, co-founded the Sunrise Movement, a youth-led climate organization that brought calls for the Green New Deal into the mainstream in twenty eighteen. His campaign centered on support for a datacenter moratorium. He defeated Bridget Brink, a former ambassador to Ukraine and Slovakia, and Matt Maasdam, a retired Navy SEAL and military aide to Barack Obama. Lawrence will now face incumbent Republican Tom Barrett in the November general election.
