Joanna Whaley, a former megachurch pastor who endured fifteen years of conversion practices, decisively won the Democratic primary for the second district of Michigan's statehouse on Tuesday. The Guardian reports she defeated former state representative Frank Liberati and Gary Schlack, positioning her to become the first transgender member of Michigan's state legislature.
