‘To kill the civilian economy is to kill the country’: Moscow mayor rejects calls to put Russia’s economy on a war footing
politics
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin is rejecting proposals to shift Russia's economy onto a war footing. Speaking to the Russian state news agency TASS, Sobyanin argued that sacrificing the civilian economy would backfire — without functioning businesses and workers, there's no tax revenue or income to fund anything, including the war effort. The mayor called the proposals worthless, responding to a State Duma deputy who recently urged economic mobilization following Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory.
