On South Australia's Limestone Coast, H5 bird flu arrived just three weeks ago, and residents are already encountering sick and dead birds regularly. The Guardian reports that longtime local bird observer Maureen Christie, who has watched over the region's birds for decades, is now seeing many of them stricken and suffering.
