According to The Guardian, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted to hold retired public health official Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress following a hearing last week. Fauci invoked the fifth amendment, citing fear of self-incrimination and prosecution. Republican lawmakers, who have routinely criticized his pandemic response, now face a procedural challenge: the contempt resolution would require sixty votes to advance in the Senate, where Republicans hold just fifty-three seats.
