AI self-checkout bills a snack run at $8.5 billion

A Circle K shopper posted a screenshot on Thursday of an unusual checkout error. According to Boing Boing, the self-checkout screen correctly listed a few Gatorades at a few dollars each, then added an eight point five billion dollar line item for the American Red Cross. It's a striking example of how even AI-powered checkout systems can occasionally calculate spectacularly wrong totals.
