Jan. 6 prosecutions are over, but the fight lingers

The years-long effort to prosecute the January sixth attack has effectively wrapped up, Axios reports, after a judge dismissed the last remaining indictment against Oath Keepers members already freed by President Trump. Judge Amit Mehta, who granted the DOJ's request to toss the case, wrote that this closed the book on prosecutions meant to hold people accountable for that day, even as he pushed back on efforts to downplay what happened. A separate case against Proud Boys leaders was also dismissed by a Trump-appointed judge, who nonetheless called January sixth an attack on the peaceful transfer of power. Leaders of both groups, including Proud Boys leader Henry Tarrio and Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, had been convicted of seditious conspiracy and given lengthy sentences before Trump pardoned or commuted them.
