New Mexico court orders Meta to pay $567m over harms to children’s mental health

The Guardian reports that a New Mexico court has ordered Meta to pay five hundred sixty-seven million dollars for mental health harms to children from its platforms. Of that settlement, four hundred twenty million dollars will fund treatment services for young people, with the remainder directed toward prevention, awareness, and screening efforts over the next five years. The ruling follows a landmark trial in March that found Meta enabled harm against its users.
