Spain's annual flamingo ringing begins

science

Per France 24, hundreds of volunteers converged on Spain's Fuente de Piedra lake on Saturday for the annual flamingo chick ringing. Since the lake became a nature reserve in nineteen eighty-four, environmental authorities have been tagging chicks to track their movements across reserves in Europe and North Africa. This year, six hundred birds received bands — part of a population exceeding two hundred thousand chicks that have nested there over the past four decades.
