Gujarat canal-top solar generates power while saving 2.38M gallons of water

science

Times of India reports that a half-mile solar strip now floats above an irrigation canal in Gujarat, generating one point six million kilowatt-hours of power while conserving two point three eight million gallons of water from evaporation. The panels also inhibit algae growth. This dual-use project demonstrates how existing infrastructure can be repurposed for multiple benefits—addressing land scarcity while enhancing water management across the region.
