Major earthquake rocks Colombia and other countries, causing damage and injuries

world

A powerful earthquake struck Colombia on Monday, with Bogota residents fleeing into the streets as sirens sounded. Colombia's geological service measured the quake at magnitude six point six, while the USGS put it at seven point four, with an epicenter one hundred kilometers underground in the west of the country. In Cali, Colombia's third-largest city, at least twenty buildings collapsed with people trapped inside, and the mayor called in rescue teams from Bogota and Medellin. Dawn reports serious damage in Choco province's capital, Quibdo, with the tremor felt as far away as Ecuador and Panama.
