Photosynthetic microorganisms achieve long-lasting and renewable chemical production

Phys.org reports that photosynthetic microorganisms can convert carbon dioxide into useful compounds using light energy. Current production systems, however, rely on cells growing freely in large volumes of liquid, which creates substantial water demand and requires extensive mixing to keep cells distributed and light-exposed—significantly raising the resource and energy requirements of the process.
