Israel and Venezuela renew diplomatic relations

Israel and Venezuela have announced the restoration of diplomatic relations after seventeen years of severed ties. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the two countries agreed to establish a coordination mechanism to enable consular services for citizens of both nations. Venezuela originally cut ties in two thousand nine under leftist president Hugo Chavez, but relations improved under acting Venezuelan president Delcy Rodriguez, who took office in January. The move coincides with neighboring Colombia's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
