Five years after quitting a job, developer’s former boss asked for rapid tech support

A developer who quit his job at a mail order company five years earlier tells The Register something surprising: his old boss recently called in a panic. The boss had just fired the clerk who ran the system, and in retaliation, she unplugged the machine during a critical print run. The developer came over, plugged it back in, verified the data, and restarted the print run, charging his old boss a fee for the emergency rescue. Turns out the best person to call when your system is down might be the person who built it years ago.
