Hidden Airtag reveals Amazon is trashing rare books to train AI

Amazon is buying rare books in bulk and destroying them for artificial intelligence training, Ars Technica reports. The finding comes from an Airtag hidden in a rare book that was tracked to an Amazon facility in Las Vegas, where staff tear volumes from their spines and scan pages. Notably, the team's warehouse displays a logo of a Tyrannosaurus rex about to devour a book—apparently tone-deaf given mounting criticism over book destruction for AI. Amazon declined to comment on the investigation.
