Australia politics live: Butler confident NDIS bill will pass Senate after deal with Coalition; regulator yet to contact gambling operators after Luke Bateman’s allegations
politics
Australia's government has reached a deal with the Coalition to pass an NDIS bill through the Senate. The Guardian reports the agreement includes more than a dozen amendments, one creating an opt-out register for gambling advertising. Treasurer Jim Chalmers calls these changes 'very substantial,' with the gambling industry covering regulatory costs. However, authorities have raised concerns about automation. They worry that automated systems used in the recent aged care reforms—which led to reassessments of two hundred fifty thousand older Australians—could be applied to disability support, potentially affecting up to seven hundred fifty thousand Australians with disabilities.
