Voyager 1: What Is a Light-Day
science
NASA Science reports that Voyager 1, launched in nineteen seventy-seven, is about to become the first human-made object to reach one light-day away from Earth — roughly sixteen billion miles. The milestone is set for Wednesday, November eighteenth, twenty twenty-six, after nearly fifty years of flight. Its twin, Voyager 2, is expected to reach the same distance in about nine more years. It's a distance milestone, not a time one, and a reminder of how far the spacecraft has traveled.
