An Uncommon Drifter in the Denmark Strait
science
per NASA Science, a large iceberg measuring roughly seventeen square kilometres—about five times the area of New York's Central Park—was spotted drifting through the Denmark Strait in mid‑June. NASA Science reports that satellite images identified it as a remnant shelf ice, distinguished by its bright white hue and meltwater ponds, and traced its origin to a bay in northeastern Greenland. By mid‑August the iceberg was expected to break apart, making it unlikely to reach busy shipping lanes and underscoring the dynamic nature of Earth’s ice cover.
