AI Is Learning to Write Genetic Code

Artificial intelligence is being used to design genetic code for viruses that target bacteria. As Schneier on Security tells it, researchers used two models to generate hundreds of thousands of potential designs for a bacteriophage, a virus that destroys bacteria from the inside. After synthesizing and testing a small selection of these designs, sixteen samples proved viable, with some showing greater effectiveness at attacking E. coli than the original example used for the study.
