Meduza reports that Russia had sought a UN treaty targeting extremism, subversion and criticism of authorities. As Meduza tells it, the pact was superseded by the UN Convention against Cybercrime, which focuses on hacking and fraud. Per Meduza, the new treaty obliges signatories to develop the capacity to collect electronic evidence for up to 90 days, echoing Russia’s earlier Yarovaya law. The treaty will be submitted to the State Duma for ratification by the end of 2026.
