Former British and French diplomats urge action over Israel’s ‘erasure’ of Palestine

politics

According to The Guardian, on Saturday more than one hundred former British and French diplomats have jointly written to President Emmanuel Macron and the UK’s Business Secretary, urging immediate action over what they describe as Israel’s erasure of Palestine. The Guardian reports that the letter accuses Israel of ethnic cleansing and calls for a trade and arms sales ban, the suspension of the EU‑Israel association agreement and the UK‑Israel trade partnership, and an end to arms transfers. Per The Guardian, the signatories also demand unrestricted humanitarian aid for Gaza, a ban on settlement trade and a prohibition on British and French citizens purchasing property on seized Palestinian land. They warn that without such measures, the world may stop seeing Israel as a genuine democracy.
