A homebrew Apple II clone, the SB mini II
tech
According to Adafruit, a maker named Simon has built a homebrew clone of the Apple II personal computer. Here's what makes it possible: the original Apple II, released in nineteen seventy-seven, was assembled from standard off-the-shelf components. That meant no custom chips—just parts you could buy from any electronics supplier. Now, decades later, many of those same components are still available. So Simon did what Steve Jobs did in nineteen seventy-seven: sourced the parts and built one himself. The resulting SB mini II is a functional replica of computing history, proof that sometimes the most innovative machines are simply the right parts put together in the right way.
