8.7 crore young Indians are not working, studying or undergoing training: NITI Aayog

world

Per Scroll.in, a new NITI Aayog analysis estimates that about 8.7 crore Indians aged fifteen to twenty‑nine are neither studying nor working nor in training. The figure comes from the 78th round of the National Sample Survey in 2021 and breaks the age group into five categories, including the NEET cohort. It stresses that affordable or subsidized training and financial support are needed, especially for women and those with limited exposure to practical learning. That means roughly 8.7 crore young Indians are currently on the sidelines of the labor and education pipeline.
