A new DIY handheld tricorder-like device

According to Adafruit Blog, Hamzah Abugosh has created ThriCorder version three point eight, a handheld device inspired by Star Trek tricorders. It combines multiple sensors to measure environmental data, distance, color, thermal signatures, sound, and wireless signals. All the readings display on a small TFT screen alongside an eight by eight LED matrix, housed in a custom three D printed case.
