The head of Australia's Productivity Commission is defending an interim report that describes a special GST deal with Western Australia as a costly mistake. As The Guardian (World) tells it, Commissioner Angela Jackson says the agency remains above politics despite criticism from Western Australia's premier, who claimed changes to the deal would remove six billion dollars from the state's economy. Jackson noted that while the commission welcomes debate, attacks on its integrity are a bridge too far.
