Blow Those Pyros With A Telephone!

tech

Hackaday reports on a hobbyist who built a pyrotechnic igniter using the hand-cranked generator from an old military field telephone. The crank charges a capacitor bank, and a thyristor dumps the stored energy into the charge's filament. The build includes a charge indicator and a filament tester, and it's a reminder of how far electronics have come — today you'd likely use a microcontroller and an off-the-shelf inverter module.
