The Costly Blunders in the Army’s $533 Million Fiasco

The U.S. Army paid five hundred thirty-three million dollars for an artillery factory that failed to produce a single usable shell, ProPublica reports. Former workers described the Texas facility as an absolute disaster, where robotic arms caught fire and machines mangled steel into shapes resembling soft-serve ice cream. Per ProPublica, the project was rushed through no-bid contracts to support Ukraine, leading the Army to adopt unproven Turkish machinery without proper vetting. While the Army says it is seeking to recoup funds through discounts on other orders, the same General Dynamics unit responsible for the failure has since won two point five billion dollars in new contracts.
