Exclusive: City Labs Plans Second Nuclear Demo

Payload Space reports that City Labs is preparing a second nuclear‑powered payload flight, targeting a launch in twenty twenty seven. The first demo, called BOHR, launched on SpaceX's Transporter seventeen rideshare in July and used a tritium‑powered betavoltaic battery to generate microwatts of electricity; the upcoming test will evaluate a tritium‑powered radioisotope heating unit designed to keep lunar payloads warm through the two‑week lunar night. The tiny devices weigh only a few grams, but they can be stacked to supply the right amount of power or heat for commercial moon missions, a capability the company says could improve the economics of lunar ventures. Cabauy says City Labs expects to fly the twenty twenty seven demo without regulatory speed bumps.
