The Colorado River Basin Is Running Out of Water. Not Everyone Is Happy with the Government’s Suggested Solution.
world
The Colorado River Basin is facing a severe water crisis, with Lake Mead and Lake Powell both hitting record low levels this August. Per Eos, the Department of the Interior has mandated water cuts of one point two five million acre-feet across Arizona, California, and Nevada for the next two years. While Upper Basin states face no reductions, Nevada has already filed a lawsuit against the government, claiming the decision could eventually force the state to cut seventy-one percent of its allocation. Experts warn that these measures are only a short-term bridge and the system remains highly vulnerable to another bad year.
