Orbital files plans for 100,000 orbital data centers

According to SpaceNews, startup Orbital has filed with the Federal Communications Commission to launch up to one hundred thousand data center satellites. The company aims to deliver ten gigawatts of computing power from orbit to meet surging artificial intelligence demand. At just five months old, Orbital is proposing one of the largest satellite constellations ever attempted—an ambitious bet that space-based infrastructure can solve the earthbound data center shortage.
