LLM-Based Social Engineering Scams

OpenAI has disrupted a social engineering group based in Cambodia that utilized ChatGPT to carry out various scams. As Schneier on Security tells it, the network used the AI to build trust through fake dating personas before pivoting to fraudulent cryptocurrency and gold trading investments. The group also impersonated law enforcement and gambling platforms, using generated images of forged passports and legal notices to deceive their targets.
