Infant deaths at Pims prompt Sindh govt to renew fire safety directives

A fire that killed fourteen infants at Pakistan's Institute of Medical Sciences has pushed Sindh's government to renew fire safety orders across the province, Dawn reports. The Pakistan Medical Association called the blaze a predictable outcome of criminal negligence and structural failure, and demanded the resignation of Pims' entire executive administration along with compensation for each affected family. Sindh's chief secretary has ordered every public building and institution in the province to complete fire safety reviews and submit compliance certificates within fifteen days, with officials saying over three thousand three hundred buildings have already been audited. The Sindh Health Care Commission says it will now run unannounced inspections of hospitals to check whether those safety standards are actually being met.
