APOD: 2026 August 28 – The Sky Turns Above Paranal

A new image from the Paranal Observatory in Chile captures the rotation of the Earth through a series of star trails. As NASA Science tells it, the photograph was created by stacking three hundred separate exposures to reveal concentric arcs centered on the south celestial pole. The scene also features one of the observatory's one point eight meter auxiliary telescopes illuminated in the foreground.
