The Federal Aviation Administration is taking the first steps to overturn a ban on supersonic flights over the United States, according to FAA Administrator Sean Duffy. The long-standing restriction was imposed to protect people on the ground from noise pollution caused by sonic booms. But advances in quieter supersonic aircraft technology may have solved that problem—meaning faster-than-sound travel over U.S. airspace could soon make a comeback.
