Govt apologises for ‘temporary’ night-time loadshedding due to unavailability of RLNG

Pakistan's government has apologized for nighttime power cuts, blaming a shortage of regasified liquefied natural gas after a cargo failed to arrive on time. Dawn reports the temporary load shedding lasted one and a half to three hours during peak hours, with a shortfall of three thousand six hundred megawatts, compounded by a drop in generation from Mangla Dam. Furnace oil plants were brought online to meet demand, and the Power Division says the cuts will ease once delayed LNG cargoes arrive. The apology follows a similar one in April, and the supply disruption is tied to the US-Iran war affecting shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, which has also driven up power generation costs and prompted a request for a fuel cost adjustment in September bills.
