Motorized Planer Height Adjustment Dials In

Hackaday reports that a woodworker known as DendroLabsDev got tired of cranking the height adjustment wheel on his planer during maintenance, so he built a motorized version using a stepper motor. The motor delivers about a thousand steps per inch, and he programmed several modes—like planing to a specific thickness, zeroing the position, saving settings, and stepping through passes. The result mimics the controls found on expensive planers, but adapted for a common DeWalt model, and he plans to turn it into a more accessible product with a PCB and enclosure. The hack is also adaptable to any planer with a similar wheel, and it's part of a broader trend of adding electronics to woodworking tools.
