PML-N leader calls for UN restructuring
politics
Dawn reports that former Pakistani senator Abdul Qayyum has called for restructuring the United Nations, arguing that veto powers and limited Security Council representation prevent the world body from acting impartially. Speaking at a ceremony honoring the late Sun Myung Moon, Qayyum said the UN's work in peacekeeping and humanitarian aid is commendable, but its effectiveness depends on member states following international law. He also criticized superpower interventions, citing NATO's experience in Afghanistan, and urged that international law, not military might, should guarantee security for smaller nations. Qayyum concluded that the UN's success relies on the cooperation of its members.
