South West Water has worst environmental record in England, analysis shows

world

Friends of the Earth’s analysis finds South West Water, which supplies drinking water to millions across the south‑west, responsible for the highest volume of sewage discharge among England’s water companies, especially in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset, the Guardian reports. The charity examined six environmental criteria—sewage spills, bathing‑site water quality, pollution warnings, severity of sewage pollution, river ecological health and bill affordability—concluding that the firm’s record is the poorest in the nation, a result that may invite tighter regulatory scrutiny.
